Deactivated Phone Numbers Report

OpenMarket provides the Deactivated Phone Numbers reports ("Deact" reports) for certain US mobile operators to help you keep your phone number lists current. We expect that by making the reports available, you can process them daily to keep your contact lists up to date such that you do not inadvertently send MT messages to phone numbers that are no longer owned by the person who opted into your program.

Mobile operators providing Deactivated Phone Numbers reports

The information in the following table is subject to change. OpenMarket will update the table as we process reports from additional mobile operators. Note that we make all reports available daily and the content of each report is incremental, meaning that it contains only phone numbers for which the deactivation status changed from the previous report. If there is no information for a deactivation period, a report might not be provided.

  • Deact File Name is the name of the file available from Customer Center Reporting.
  • Age of data refers to when a phone number was deactivated.
  • Deactivation period is the number of calendar days a phone number is deactivated.

Field descriptions

All the Deactivated Phone Numbers reports except Verizon Wireless use the following format:

  • Column one: the effective date for the deactivation (in UTC).
  • Column two: the carrierId for the mobile operator.
  • Column three: the mobile number that is now deactivated.
  • Column four: the new mobile number of the end user, if known.
    Only the following deact reports include this column: Sprint, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless reports have an additional column at the start to identify whether the number is deactivated, activated, suspended, or reactivated.

Interacting with new mobile numbers

The new mobile number field is populated when an end user changes their phone number. This event causes the mobile operator to deactivate the original number. You can switch over any interaction that your services have with this end user to their new number when you receive their consent (opt-in) to send them text messages on the new phone number.

Important: Do not send Standard Rate or FTEU (Free-To-End-User) SMS or MMS messages to a mobile phone number that appears in any of the Deactivated Numbers reports, regardless of whether you are using a short code, text-enabled toll-free number, or local number (long code or text-enabled landline) as the message originator.

    • Suspend — All messaging must be suspended until the mobile number is reactivated. Existing subscriptions can remain intact and will not require a new opt-in when reactivated.
    • Reactivate — the mobile number has been reactivated from a Suspend status, and is considered an active number. All messaging can resume on the reactivated number.
    • Deactivate — the mobile number has been deactivated. All messaging to deactivated numbers must be blocked for 31 days.
    • Activate — the mobile number has been activated from a Deactivated status, and is considered an active number. These numbers must opt-in again to a program to begin any messaging activity.
