API Account Differences

If you're currently using our UK SMS API (also known as the MX API), then this information is for you. If you're new to OpenMarket, see the Overview to find out how to connect to us.

This page explains how the SMS accounts you require differ with the Global SMS API.

To use the Global SMS API, you need only one account ID to send messages globally. This differs from the UK SMS API, which requires you to send messages through separate accounts based on the destination country and any tariff. With the Global SMS API, the account ID authenticates all requests, regardless of the destination. However, during the provisioning process, you will still need your account authorized to send messages to each region.

Account IDs for the Global SMS API look similar to: 123-456-789-12345.

Reports for the Global SMS API are available via the Reporting Insights application in OpenMarket Customer Center. We will provide your users with individual accounts for accessing reports. As long as a user's account is provisioned to do so, he or she can view and download SMS messaging reports without needing to know the account ID. For example, a business might have the following accounts.

Account ID / Name

Description

123-456-789-12345

Used in any Global SMS API request (POST or GET), such as to send an MT message to any end user.
