Overview

Numbers is a self-service application within OpenMarket's Customer Portal. Its purpose is to let you purchase and configure source numbers (also called originators) that you can use to send messages via SMS and MMS.

This version of Numbers is designed for a specific type of source number called 10DLC. The 10DLC is a long code that US mobile network operators have approved for A2P messaging.

If you're unfamiliar with 10DLCs, check out the FAQs for some history, why you might want to consider using them, and what's required to use them. And before you start using Numbers, check out Things to Know to get familiar with concepts such as brands and campaigns.

There are four basic steps to getting set up to use 10DLC:

1 Purchase one or multiple numbers

Simply choose an area code and the number or numbers you want, then confirm the purchase. The cost is added to your next OpenMarket invoice.

2 Register your brand Here you'll enter basic information about your company. You only need to do this one time regardless how many numbers you buy or campaigns you run. Some mobile network operators use this information to determine whether you are a risk for spam. You have nothing to worry about if your messaging track record is good.
3 Submit your campaign brief Some mobile operators require campaign briefs. They're used for short codes as well as 10DLCs. The brief is simply a description of the campaign you plan to run.
4 Configure the number This step involves linking the number(s) to your campaign and also to the ID that OpenMarket has given to your messaging application.

To ensure that the process goes smoothly, we advise looking over our 10DLC Checklist so you know what information you'll need when you start. You may also want to check out our 10DLC Videos, which walk you through each step.

In addition to letting you do all four steps to get set up with your first 10DLC, Numbers lets you do these additional tasks:

  • View the numbers you own to see how they're configured.
  • View the operator status of a campaign brief. Once an operator has approved your campaign, its status becomes Active.
  • Submit a new campaign brief for approval.
  • Add a keyword to the routing configuration for incoming messages.
  • Assign a number from a deprecated (terminated) campaign to a new campaign.
  • Purchase additional numbers.
