Follow our new weekly series to learn more about life at OpenMarket and gain an insight into the roles and interests of our OMies. In this first instalment we hear from Software Development Team Lead, Priyanka Shukla from our Pune, India office on what her typical day looks like.

What does a typical day look like for you?
Every parent’s life is a balancing act and you must make the most of your free time to keep growing yourself professionally, keep your family happy and yourself sane, so that you don’t go crazy. As a mother to my two year old girl, my day usually revolves around her.

Every parent’s life is a balancing act and you must make the most of your free time to keep yourself growing professionally, your family happy and yourself sane! As a mother to my two year old girl, my day usually revolves around her.

Right from the time I wake up, I start planning for the day, especially the activities we will do together and the stuff I need to take care of in the office. I prepare breakfast for my family and help my daughter get ready for her play school. I arrive at the office after dropping her to school.

The environment in the office is quite friendly. After having quick banter with my colleagues, I start my usual work. Second half of the day, generally, is busier as we have most of the meetings when our UK counterpart team is in.

After reaching home, I connect with my daughter and spend time with her and my husband. We usually take her out to play and after dinner I read her bed time stories and sometimes don’t even realize that I’m asleep before her. If I am awake, I like reading books (technical and non-technical) and watching tech chats, webinars or a quick TV series, before I finally doze off.

What is your definition of diversity? Or What does diversity mean to you?
Diversity is more than just a welcoming environment. It’s a state of mind. It means having respect for others and the willingness to listen and learn from their experiences and points of view. To be diverse is to be different, without being divided.

Do you have a life motto? If so, what is it?
Where there’s a will there’s a way

5G, Modular phones

Are there any new skills you want to master or learn?
