Meet Kate-Lyne Petersen, Financial Accountant

Part of our "A Day in the life of an OMie" series

OpenMarket – April 17, 2020

In this third instalment we hear from our Financial Accountant, Kate-Lyne Petersen from our Seattle, WA office on what her typical day looks like.

What does a typical day look like for you?
After I turn on my computer, the first thing I do is go to the kitchen to fill up my water bottle and use the nice espresso machine to make a mocha – the Stumptown one is my favorite!

Part of my team is based in the UK. So, if I have any meetings scheduled with them I’ll get into the office a bit early to jump on a call. I sit with my team in the US so if there’s anything we need to discuss, we’ll chat in person when I get to work.

Most of my responsibilities are with our UK customers – I’ll respond to and chase information via email. When there are opportunities to learn about what’s going on in the company, I’ll go to office-wide meetings. I do reconciliations at the end of the month so I need to coordinate with people on my team, those who manage data and account managers, as well as our parent company Amdocs. The end of the month is a little busier but I don’t ever have to work crazy hours. I normally get to leave at a reasonable time and often I go home for lunch to walk my dog.

What is your definition of diversity? Or What does diversity mean to you?
Diversity to me means the inclusion of people from all backgrounds – race, orientation, gender, class, etc. We all can learn from each other and we learn better with different perspectives. I’m an Asian-American female from a lower-income family so diversity means a lot to me. It’s so important to have representation and empower people who might not have the same privilege as you – we can all move further, faster with diversity.

Do you have a life motto? If so, what is it?
The grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.

What do you think is the biggest game-changer in mobile technology at the moment?
When a company is able to give me shipping updates or appointment confirmation. It takes the guessing out of where an order is and takes away one more thing to worry about. It is an existing aspect of mobile technology but I just love the convenience and ease of use.

Are there any new skills you want to master or learn?
Making my first quilt and learning Korean!
